A photograph by Martin Sylvester. In the foreground is a carved figure of Christ, with right hand raised in blessing, and left hand holding a shell - a symbol of baptism and of pilgrimage. Intensely lit, in the background, we see a crucifix. The lifelong pilgrimage of faith that begins with the new life given in baptism passes through suffering and death on the way to resurrection and eternal life.

Children's Liturgy

The penitential rite at Mass, the grown-up readings from the lectionary, and the homily can be hard for smaller children to follow. So our catechists celebrate a special liturgy for them, often using activities to help the children explore the topics covered in the scripture readings.

The children gather in Church, then go out to the activity room at the beginning of Mass, returning to church in time for the offertory procession to join their families for the rest of Holy Mass.

The children's liturgy is celebrated at 9.30am on Sunday morning, except on the first Sunday of the month (when it's the Mass prepared by young people) and in August (when summer holidays mean we can't guarantee there'll be enough catechists to comply with strict child protection rules) .
