A photograph by Martin Sylvester. In the foreground is a carved figure of Christ, with right hand raised in blessing, and left hand holding a shell - a symbol of baptism and of pilgrimage. Intensely lit, in the background, we see a crucifix. The lifelong pilgrimage of faith that begins with the new life given in baptism passes through suffering and death on the way to resurrection and eternal life.

How to find the church

The Church of St Peter & St Paul, marked by a red dot on the street plan, is at the corner of Newhall Road and Darklands Road, Swadlincote.

Click here for a map of England showing you where Swadlincote is.

This website also has information for public transport users, and for people without a car who are unable to use public transport. If you're travelling by car, and coming from out of town, please tell whoever's navigating that the road shown on some older maps and road atlases as the A50, running from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, through Swadlincote, to Burton-on-Trent, is now numbered the A511. The entrance to the car park is on Darklands Road.

National Cycle Route 63 crosses Darklands Road: from the toucan crossing, cycle North, away from the roundabout, and you'll find the church on your right at the top of the hill.Street map: St Peter and St Paul. Take Darklands Road uphill from Sainsbury's roundabout.
