A photograph by Martin Sylvester. In the foreground is a carved figure of Christ, with right hand raised in blessing, and left hand holding a shell - a symbol of baptism and of pilgrimage. Intensely lit, in the background, we see a crucifix. The lifelong pilgrimage of faith that begins with the new life given in baptism passes through suffering and death on the way to resurrection and eternal life.

Facilities for people with disabilities

  • There is a ramp entrance on the Newhall Road side of the church.
  • The church has wide doors.
  • There are no steps between the entrance and the place where people receive Holy Communion or a blessing.
  • A loop system is installed for the benefit of hearing aid users.
  • There is lavatory which has baby changing facilities and is accessible for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users.
  • The signed liturgies arranged by our Diocesan Catholic Deaf Fellowship are given prominent publicity in our weekly bulletin.
  • People who do not use the telephone, but have access to email, can use email to communicate with the parish priest.
  • This website includes transport information for people who don't have use of a car and are unable to use public transport.
  • Communicants who are unable to leave their homes, or who are in-patients in hospital, can still participate in the Eucharist thanks to our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, who will bring them the Blessed Sacrament and celebrate a brief liturgy with them.
  • People who who wish the celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilation, or the Sacrament of the Sick, but are unable to leave their homes (or are in-patients in hospital), are encouraged to invite the parish priest (or hospital chaplain) to visit them and celebrate the sacrament in their home (or at their bedside in hospital).
  • This website has been designed with a high contrast colour scheme for the benefit of people with visual disabilities.
  • The use of graphics on this website has been kept to a minimum.
  • The graphics on this website have text tags for the benefit of people who are blind and use webpage to speech technology.
  • The text on this website complies with the size preferences set in the visitor's browser, meaning people with limited vision can make text larger if they wish to.

We are always eager to receive suggestions for new ways of improving the welcome we give to people with disabilities.
